This amazing project involved the historic preservation of the original 19th century residence with the construction of a contemporary two-story addition. Working with the town’s Historic Commission, much of the existing home was preserved. The floor plan was reconfigured, saving select elements such as wide-pine floors and a brick fireplace. Significant structural work was executed to retain the building’s original character.
The new addition was linked to the original house by a glass connector. Expansive glass windows, a wood ceiling, and brick piers were used to anchor the space. A kalei finish was applied to the interior and exterior brick to soften the texture and support the historic aesthetic. The project scope also included the construction of a new outbuilding, demolishing an existing, non-historic garage to create a poolside barn that provides additional living and bedroom spaces.
